Part 3: Kingdom of Love

The world was made flesh and moved into the neighbourhood. (John 1)

3.1 In 2000 Pope John Paul II called for “a new evangelisation” where Christians were asked to form community of love. Pope Benedict, as a cardinal at the time, told us that whilst the Church has never ceased to evangelise in its history, we must offer a new evangelisation to a generation that does not find access to the “classic” evangelisation. Pope Benedict XVI this year builds on these thoughts through the launch of 'The Pontifical Council for New Evangelisation'  which called for the Church “to be regenerated by the Holy Spirit” and to “present herself to the modern world with a missionary vigour capable", whilst "evangelising cyberspace".

3.2 The Community is a school of love, and attempts to embody the directives of this council by offering the gospel to our young adults using today’s mediums. We are reminded that “The culture that we live in is a privileged vehicle for transmitting the gospel.” (Pope Benedict XVI) as culture transmits values. Our work therefore is to try to embrace today’s cultural achievements and use them to evangelise and catechise.

3.3 We try to build a culture of communion, fostering community and self sacrifice, showing that God is the answer to a fuller richer life, not the latest gadget or a self designed product. By building this Kingdom of God we try to show that God exists, God is alive, God is present and acts in the world - in our lives. Latests gardets are the means to Christs message, not the end itself.

3.4.Our lives revolve around the gospels of Christ. For the gospel to penetrate every element of human culture, we must learn to love. It is the vocation to love that allows us to grow closer to the young. We attempt to present a gospel that is dynamic, complete and demanding, that changes lives and shows the road to holiness.

3.5 Within our society we need to strive for a culture of holiness. Whilst we are not a source of light,  we try to point to the source, allowing our actions and words to do the talking. Adoration lies at the bedrock of our prayer life. Before the Lord we learn to discern His will for our lives, we ask for lack daily bread, we attempt to match forgiveness with forgiveness and we plead to survive the tests daily life throws at us. We desire that His name be praised, that His kingdom come and that we be His faithful servants in its planting.

3.7 We aim, through our lives try to change the perception that many young adults have about being a Christian. Our work, prayer and relationships try to embrace a spirit of adventure, love, passion, joy. Being a Christian is not irrelevant or meaningless, but life-giving, joy filled, exciting and alive. We hope that our personal witness may enliven those we meet.

3.8 Through the Church we come to share in the Good News of Jesus Christ. We have received the gift of faith on which our hope is founded through baptism, built on at confirmation and today dominates our lives and inspires us to leave all things and follow Christ. Our religious vocation is a special gift meant for the glory of God and as a testimony to the primacy of the kingdom.
